Dear parents and students,

After a busy week of examinations, we could finally take a rest during the Easter holidays. After the holidays, it was Teachers’ Professional Development Day on 13 April. On that day, teachers took part in various activities regarding the development of the school, including Positive Education Seminar and School Development Review. Positive Education is our school’s current major area of development. Positive Education applies positive psychology in education settings. It puts emphasis on whole person development and aims to help individuals develop, discover, foster and actualise their strengths and potential. It promotes the development of positive elements such as optimism, joy and caring for one another, and the ability to proactively face stresses and challenges in order to cultivate whole person development and to have a fulfilling life. The speaker was Ms. Pinky LAM. She used interesting and animated examples to illustrate positive emotions and communication for our teachers which helped us to understand and effectively deal with students’ emotions. In the afternoon, teachers worked in small groups to review the development of our school over the past three years in order to draw up a new Three-Year School Development Plan. Parents and students are also very important in this process, so I hope that you will take part, too! Our school will design some creative surveys for different stakeholders to express their opinions. Your views are invaluable for the development of our school!

After the Easter Holidays, two-thirds of students of primary and secondary schools in Hong Kong may be arranged to go to school for face-to-face lessons. As usual, all areas of our school have been disinfected. We have also been constantly reminding our students to maintain personal hygiene in order to provide them with a clean and worry-free environment to learn. First, we will observe the circumstances following class resumption; if the situation is stable, we will resume half-day class resumption for all students as soon as possible. I hope that the epidemic will pass soon and that we can all live happily and healthily.

Spring is slowly passing by; the floras of our school are blooming! Our school is overflowing with life. There are flowers and trees everywhere. There are also chili peppers, herbs… Look! Has “Newspaper Tree” blossomed? Can you guess what kind of tree this is? If you can guess it right, I will give you one to eat!

At the end of April, our school arranged some special activities for our students, which made school life more fulfilling for them during class resumption. Our P.E. teachers included a paddle-boarding experiential activity in P.E. lessons for our students in higher grades. Our students were intrigued and they enthusiastically participated; even the passers-by couldn’t help looking at us curiously!

In terms of our Music subject, our Music teachers arranged a percussions performance in the school hall for our students. That morning, the musicians transported their huge musical instruments to school using their truck. Due to the coronavirus, Music Office couldn’t arrange a wind instruments performance for us. Fortunately, there was a video introducing brass and woodwind instruments. Our students enjoyed the concert and answered questions enthusiastically. We believe that knowledge doesn’t solely come from textbooks, but can be obtained through various means. We will do our best to provide a variety of activities in the future to increase our students’ learning motivation.
